One for the Money, Two for the Show

The men’s Cornell basketball team looks to lock up the Ivy League title and an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament this weekend at Brown and Yale. Cornell needs to win one of the two road games in order to clinch the title outright. Though Brown (11-18, 5-7 Ivy) and Yale (11-18, 5-7 Ivy) don’t appear to be challenging competition on paper, both have the potential to topple the Red.

M. Basketball Dismantles Yale, Battles Brown for Win

Rahul Kishore  —  Feb 8, 2010

This weekend’s matchups with Yale and Brown further proved that the Ivy League has no answer to No. 25 Cornell’s dominance. The Red sent the Bulldogs back to New Haven, tails between their legs, with a 90-71 victory on Friday. The next evening, Brown came to town, taking the full brunt of Newman Nation with a 74-60 loss.

In these two games, as the Red took the court, there was a “David and Goliath” feeling in the air. Yale came into Friday’s matchup with a 2-2 record in Ancient Eight play, but was coming off a tough loss to Princeton.

Driving back to Ithaca from Brown University (where we saw Emma Watson!), it is painful not to second guess what might have been Friday night against Yale. We can only imagine the team feels the same way.

M. Hockey Falls to Yale, Routs Brown

Sun Staff  —  Nov 16, 2009

For the men’s hockey team, it seems like there’s just something about Yale. The No. 12 Bulldogs won all three contests between the two teams last season, including a 5-0 rout in the ECAC Hockey championship game. And despite the No. 3 Red’s hot start to the season, Yale outskated Cornell once again on Friday in New Haven, Conn., and came away with a 4-2 win. The Red took out its frustration the next night in a 6-0 thrashing of Brown.
